I’ve been seeing some people getting a bit confused and getting some stuff wrong in the comments of that one post telling the story about the creator of Neopets throwing a hissy fit (Hissi fit lol) over people disliking his idea of a game “that’s just like Neopets but with crypto” and I don’t want to add anything to it to not bother the OP but Neopets has been a hyperfixation of mine since I was 13 and I physically can’t stop myself from going “Um, ackshually ☝️🤓” so I’m gonna do it in my own post. Here’s what happened:
The guy who got super pissed off and started badmouthing Neopets users, ending his tirade with a selfie of him giving Neopets users the finger, Adam Powell, did create Neopets, yes, but he doesn’t own it anymore since it was sold to Viacom in 2005. He has been involved in a few game ventures since but they haven’t been very successful.
His idea wasn’t to “implement NFTs in Neopets”, he’s developing (or planning to) another game that’ll apparently be free to play with some extra paid features, and said features would be paid in some sort of cryptocurrency.
Sadly, the parent company of Neopets, JumpStart, already tried to implement NFTs by partnering with Metaverse back in 2021, with disastrous results, both in the eyes of Neopets players (who hated the idea because NFTs are a scam and terrible for the environment and all) and in the eyes of NFT bros (because the NFTs in question were VERY overpriced given their poor quality and made using stolen assets from Neopets fan sites). The project is apparently still underway but it’s hugely unpopular and tweets made by the official Neopets Metaverse account mostly only gets engagement from NFT bots, if they get any at all.
Back to Adam. He apparently thought people would be “excited about his new game because of the Neopets Metaverse thing”, without knowing how much the fanbase hated the whole thing, and tried to peddle it in the Discord server of the r/Neopets subreddit, a subreddit that has always been VERY vocal against the Neopets NFTs. And well. You can guess how much people weren’t interested in his game. Then, just to make matters worse, people went on the Discord server of his game and saw that it was badly moderated and chock full of homophobic comments made by cryptobros.
Adam gets pissed off at people disliking his game idea and not taking kindly to his comments that “they just don’t understand what crypto is about” and goes on an angry tirade, saying stuff such as how much he wished he never made Neopets because the fanbase sucks, saying he’s going to buy it back just to destroy it and ending in the aforementioned middle finger selfie, all while people clowned on him like crazy. This ended in him getting banned from the Discord server AND from the r/Neopets subreddit. He then started trying to defend himself and demanding to be unbanned in… the comment thread of a news article relating the incident in the Neopets fan site Jellyneo. Last time I checked he was still at it.
He blamed his outburst on “having drunk alcohol while on Sertraline” and has said he wasn’t aware of the homophobic comments in his server and claimed that he doesn’t have anything against LGBT+ people, but he has also made it very clear he doesn’t think he’s in the wrong and won’t apologize for anything.

A slight opportunity missed.
So, there’s not a whole lot that I’d change about Hank and Connor’s storyline in Detroit Become Human, but that being said.
The story takes place in 2038, and Hank is a Millennial.
Millennials don’t have that Gen Z knowledge of new technology, but they do have a pretty decent understanding of it and some have healthy skepticism. They aren’t like Boomers, who struggle to adjust to using new tech and fall for more scams. Like AI generated photos and scam emails.
There are Millennial parents that buy IPads for their literal infants and let them get brain rotted, but Hank doesn’t strike me as the type to do that.
I think there’s a missed opportunity to make Lieutenant Anderson the type of Millennial who doesn’t blindly trust new products in tech. He’s like the sensible Millennial who thinks linking your house up to an Alexa to control the lights, appliances, and doors, is dystopian. Literally does not see a point in doing all that.
Bro probably took one look at the Metaverse trailer, knew it was gonna be dog water, and laughed at its failure. Hank probably used to mess with phone scammers like this Officer:
youtube
Another change I talked about previously is having Conner be in use before the first deviant case, helping with unrelated cases. That way it feels like the Police have a reason to trust Conner enough to include him in the Cyberlife related cases. It’s highly suspicious for them to insert a police Android during an investigation that could make or break their company.
I would write Hank as still having reservations about using Connor, since he’s skeptical of Cyberlife’s intentions. He thinks Cyberlife is using this walking, talking recording device to mine information from the Police department [Which is true].
You know that scene where Connor scans Anderson’s desk to figure out his interests and break the ice? That would literally just make Hank feel like he’s right about the data mining. I’d have him sit down, not stoked about the android but resigned to deal with it, then get progressively more frustrated by Connor’s attempts to act friendly.
Then Hank stomps to the chief’s office and starts refusing to work with the android. Only to be told he has no choice. Lieutenant Anderson disliking Connor, not just because of what happened to Cole, but because he’s smart enough to think Cyberlife is using him as spyware, would be an interesting factor in their relationship.
I think the turning point where you can actually befriend Hank would be when you show up at his house and sober him up. Because a regular machine would probably just stand in one spot and call an ambulance. But Connor very stubbornly moves Anderson to his bathroom and starts briefing him on the mission once he’s sober.
One would assume this android is programmed to wait for an ambulance and confirmation that Hank’s okay, then request a different human cop to help with the investigation that night. But Connor’s actions are much more human and “illogical” than that.
Tumblr media
He’s impatient and stubborn, two traits that Cyberlife androids aren’t programmed with. Maybe the Traci Models, but 9 times out of 10, impatient and stubborn androids are bad for business. Any adult should know that, Hank included.
The meaner interrogation could have been written off as Cyberlife programming a bunch of dialogue into Connor based on cases and movie scenes. That was at work, and for all Anderson knows, Connor was always programmed to be able to intimidate criminals. But it’s a lot harder to write off an Android dragging you to the bathtub and refusing to take no for an answer about investigating that night.
That’s human. Illogical, stubborn, overstepping his bounds… and human. Leaving the car at the murder scene, despite being commanded to stay, could have been written off as Connor’s spyware programming too. Not attitude or impatience. But in retrospect, it would make sense as part of his personality too.

{18Trip} <CHAPTER 001 SIDE-A: Sun will R1ze!> 001-A04 Dependable(?) founding employees
Tumblr media
A translation of 18TRIP's CHAPTER 001 SIDE-A by 82mitsu. ENG proofreading by sasaranurude.
TL Note:
As mentioned in Kafka’s interview: The dog is named Shumai which is Siu Mai, a chinese dumpling.
Tumblr media
Kaede: (The first day of work is finally here! The other new employees will be here too, right… I’m nervous.)
Kaede: (That reminds me… I ran into Renga-kun here last week—I wonder if he turned out to be okay. He wasn’t looking too good there.)
Kaede: (Not that I can do much just sitting around and worrying! Alright, time for work!)
Tumblr media
Daniel: Nah, what’cha making all these faces for. Someone’s a busy fella as always.
Kaede: !? Eh, Da-Daniel-san!? What are you doing here!?
Daniel: Ah? ‘Cuz this is my workplace, duh.
Daniel: Lemme take it from the top again, I’m director of HAMA Tours, Iwabuchi Daniel Hiroshi. Nice to meet’cha~
Kaede: …! …! …!
Kaede: (Y-you have got to be kidding me… Does that mean he’s my boss again…!? This guy who doesn’t lift a finger…!? Kafka, why did you hire him of all people…)
Daniel: While it’s our new workplace, you better be working till ya drop~ Chief-san♪ ‘Kay, I’mma head off first.
Kaede: D-Daniel-san, you are one of the founding employees, remember!? So please actually put effort into working this time around, okay!?
Daniel: Wahaha, I’unno ‘bout that.
Tumblr media
Sakujiro: A good morning to you two, Chief, Director.
Sakujiro: Chief, we received the flowers you ordered. Thank you kindly for your consideration.
Kaede: Sakujiro-san, good morning to you too! So the flowers arrived safely then.
Sakujiro: Indeed. Young Master… Pardon, the President is most delighted with these.
Kaede: (...Oh, I see now. Sakujiro-san’s also one of the founding employees. Working together with someone who has been looking out for me since I was a kid—it does feel a little bit strange…)
Sakujiro: I am no more than a mere newbie of an ordinary employee, so please do give me orders regarding anything, even miscellaneous affairs at work.
Kaede: Eh… that’s really a bit too…
Daniel: Gotcha, Sakujiro. I’ll let ya take charge of all the annoying things.
Kaede: Daniel-san… Don’t you have any common sense…!?
Daniel: Gotta use whatever’s at your disposal~
Tumblr media
Kafka: Good morning. Everyone’s in high spirits already. Chief-chan, thanks for the flowers ♪ Could it be that you got these arranged in my image?
Kaede: Ah, Kafka, goo-
Daniel: Top of the mornin’ to ya, Bossman. 'Nother day of you looking all spiffy there.
Kaede: (Daniel-san, your tune sure changes with Kafka…)
Kafka: Good morning. The other two who will also be founding employees are already here. Allow me to introduce them.
Tumblr media
???: Good morning, Chief-san and Director-san if I’m right.
Kaede: (Wah… A calm, proper looking fine young man!)
Kafka: He’s Kitakata Nayuki. He’s an old friend I connected with back in the investor community. This time I brought him on board as the manager for accounting.
Nayuki: If there are any problems related to accounting, please don’t hesitate to ask me about anything. I will properly follow through with you.
Kaede: (Woah, a genuine guy who has it all together…! Thank god…)
Kaede: (Hm? I kinda… feel like I’ve seen him before… Where was it again, like a magazine interview or something…)
Kafka: By the way, Nayuki also has experience establishing JPN’s biggest metaverse service mahorova under the role of COO under his belt. He’s your go-to guy to rely on.
Kaede: Ah…! You’re the boy genius who created mahorova at the tender age of 12…!?
Nayuki: That is something from 11 years ago. Currently I’m a mere section manager for accounting so please treat me as such without reservation.
Kaede: (Such an amazing track record, yet so friendly and humble… Kafka, you actually hired a respectable guy…!)
Kaede: (...Honestly, why come to our company with a background like that? is what I’m thinking, but… maybe it’s because he’s friends with Kafka?)
Kaede: (...That also reminds me, something’s telling me I heard “Kitakata” somewhere else… What was it again?)
Kafka: Well, Nayuki will be taking on another job besides accounting sometime soon. Leaving that aside for now…
Kafka: There’s one more person, a guy that I employed as an intern but…
(Sounds of glass breaking and rattling)
Tumblr media
???: Wah, uwaaaaah, I fell over and the flower vase is………..Guh! Hweeehsorrysorrysorrysorrysorry—--!!!
Sakujiro: Oh good heavens. The flowers we received from Chief are a mess.
???: P-picking them right now!!! Ouch!!! There’s blood from touching the vase shards… bloooooood~!!
Kafka: Sigh… Sakujiro, lend him a hand, and put the flowers back together.
Sakujiro: I shall wrap this up within three seconds.
Sakujiro: SWISH, SHWIWIWIWIWISH!!
Kaede: (T-they’re the perfect picture of a clumsy boy and overpowered butler…!?)
???: Ah, awawawah, I blinked and there’s band-aids… G-God, was that you~!?
Kafka: Yachiyo. Come here. Those flowers are VERY! important to me so you better not be coming near them ever any time soon, okay?
Yachiyo: S-s-sorry… I won’t ever be in the same room as them ever again…
Sakujiro: Fuefuki-kun, if I may. Once you open the door first look to your right, and then to your left. Then proceed to keep a one meter distance from anything that seems breakable on impact.
Yachiyo: Ye-yeshhhh!!! I’ll write it down!! I’ll make a memo of exactly every single spoken word!!!
Daniel: Oooh, whatta hard worker, takin’ proper notes and all. Intern-kun fella.
Kaede: (It’s kind of like… another unique person joined the bunch…)
Kafka: This is Fuefuki Yachiyo. The details of his application form were unusual and funny so I hired him ♪ Do get along with him.
Kaede: (Hired because it was funny… Kafka, your bad habits are coming out again!)
Kafka: And~ last~ but~ not least~ Ta-daaah, our poster dog Shumai.
Tumblr media
Shumai: Borf!
Kaede: Eh, where did Shumai pop up from!? Wait, why did you bring him here!?
Nayuki: What a cute little doggy. Are you acquainted with him, Chief?
Kaede: Uuh, more than knowing him, we found him injured in the courtyard of the hospital Kafka was staying at back in the day…
Kafka: Chief-chan and I rescued him and looked after him at the hospital. I took him in my care when I got discharged from the hospital. Since he came running after me, and all.
Kaede: Really? It’s been so long, I’m glad to see you again, Shumai.
Shumai: Pant pant, boworf!
Kafka: Ah~ so unfair. Only wrapping your arms around Shumai. You should embrace me like you used to in the past, Chief-chan.
Kaede: W-what are you saying, geez…
Nayuki: Fufu, the president and Chief sure are good friends.
Kaede: Eh, no no it’s because we’re childhood friends…! Sorry for messing around at work…!
Kafka: It's not like we're messing around for the hell of it, this is how good friends act ♪ Manager Nayuki, don't go making eyes at Chief-chan, okay.
Kaede: (No, but seriously, what are you going on about, Kafka…)
Yachiyo: Do not make eyes at Chief… I-I jotted that down!!
Kaede: Yachiyo-kun, you don’t gotta take notes of that!
Kafka: Now then, given how all founding members have come together… Suppose it’s time to hold our first strategy meeting.

Zuckerberg also expressed regret for essentially hiding content related to coverage by the New York Post about Hunter Biden ahead of the 2020 election that the FBI warned may have been rooted in a Russian disinformation operation. “It’s since been made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation, and in retrospect, we shouldn’t have demoted the story,” he wrote.
Zuck, that was the opposite conclusion reached by well, pretty much everyone. The Hunter Biden "scandal" was ALWAYS a Russian psyop.
So in case you were wondering, Zuckerberg is now following in Elon Musk's "Free Speech" footsteps and is actively turning Meta into yet another lie machine to get Trump elected.
Also, polite reminder that the primary reason he changed the company name from Facebook to Meta was due to Facebook's 2016 election interference facilitated by now-defunct Cambridge Analytica. At the time it looked like Facebook (the brand) was gonna be tainted forever with scandal. So he pivoted to Meta and "the Metaverse", which turned out to be a silly boondoggle.

joker palace fic. im in love with your writing. please share some with us
Oh my god anon I'm so happy you asked!! I made some fantastic progress recently so I'm definitely going to talk about it now
So actually I have. um. two Joker Palace fics. One of them is based in the third semester and is basically what I talked about in this post: in short, due to some Wild Card Bullshit™️, instead of living in Maruki's altered reality in third semester, Joker actually forms a Palace as a cognitive defence and basically it becomes Goro and Sumi's job to get him out (like Maruki, he physically resides in it).
The other one is a post-game Palace au, where Joker forms a Palace out of the stress and debilitating isolation of prison. This one is the one I've been working the most on and it's at 11k words and counting— when I'm not even close to finishing it!! I'm having so much fun with it so I guess I'll talk about this one.
He thinks about the past year a lot. About the Metaverse, discovering it with Ryuji by accident, that terrifyingly free moment when he ripped Arsene from his face and felt as if he could challenge the world itself, and proceeded to do exactly that. About Personas and the Velvet Room (he tries dreaming for Lavenza, but if she exists and can hear him, she makes no reply,) and the final chains breaking under his command, all the anger and hatred burning off Arsene in waves of blue flame morphed into physical form: the cold, immovable steel of Satanael. He thinks about how the unyielding heart of Satanael, a strength unto its own, had slowly melted in the face of a perfect reality. How Maruki’s lies had snared everyone but him, and that unique, awful loneliness melting the devil’s limitless island of strength into Raoul, the trickster just as capable as Arsene but acting under no name but his own. How the truth and free will, his own real self, triumphed over the benevolent lies of yet another false god.
This Palace AU revolves heavily around the theming of first, second, and third-tier Personas (mostly Joker and Goro's). Like, we all know the pattern to the Persona awakenings in P5R, right— trickster-god-true self. Raoul is the original name of Arsene Lupin in Maurice Leblanc's series (btw did you know I actually bought The Adventures of Arsene Lupin, Gentleman Thief kinda for this fic), Hereward is the historical figures whose exploits inspired the tales of Robin Hood, etc. And like.
The Palace Joker has in this fic is a prison. But unlike the Velvet Room, it's not a prison where Joker is trapped; in fact, Cognitive Joker is the ruler of the Palace, and instead the stuff being locked away is memories. It takes the kinda passive/wallflower nature Joker has in the Confidant interactions to something more extreme: because Joker has literally nothing to do in prison but be trapped in his own head thinking, he starts categorising and compartmentalising his memories of the past year, wounds and traumas that are still fresh and raw.
And the crux is that he doesn't want to face his trauma. He locks away all his memories of the interrogation, of police brutality and being arrested and being deleted by Yaldabaoth out of existence... and most importantly, Akechi.
He had once said that Akira never allowed himself to be enslaved by things like human relations or past selves, leaving his heart forever free, but now Akira’s locked in juvie with nothing but his own misery for company, he thinks that’s wrong. The Velvet Room, taking after the shape of his heart was a prison, after all, and after that he’s simply traded one prison for another. (One might say that only the flesh remains imprisoned while the mind and heart remain forever free, but solitary confinement is a unique hell precisely because its containment reaches far beyond the flesh alone.)
So to tie these two tangents together, Cognitive Joker is the ruler of the prison Palace where he locks away his most painful memories, serving as a guardian/warden. The thing is, Cognitive Joker's true form is actually just Raoul.
Raoul is Joker's 'true self', but Joker's 'true self' has morphed in solitary confinement.
(Tighten the perimeter! It roars, golden mechanical wings spouting from its back, vivid red and gold trim dotting its jacket. Lock everything up. I will deal with him. There is no mask over its face, nor does there need to be. This is his true self: the lord of a fortress, the guardkeeper of a prison— the real occupation of gentleman thief, hoarding his hard-earned treasures.)
Instead of being a heart of a phantom thief willing to stand up to reality, Raoul has come to represent the worst side of a gentleman thief: hoarding his treasures (memories) and never letting them show. Hiding his trauma, even, from himself, just to try and convince himself that he's ok.
This has most been me rambling about the workings of this fic from behind the scenes, so anon, I'll treat you to two nice long passages now: the first one is the delivery of the calling card, and the second one is when Goro confronts Cognitive Joker— because this is also a shuake fic, by the way, although no actual romance happens yet beyond homoerotically beating the manifestation of your rival's heart to death and saving his soul from despair. Goro is the one to infiltrate the Palace (thanks to some intervention by Lavenza) and learn about all of the absolutely horrifying shit happening in Joker's mind.
(Continues on from right after the snippet in this post.)
Finally, Maruki speaks, jolting Akira out of his stupor. “Kurusu-kun… to tell you the truth, I didn’t plan on visiting you at all. I thought it would be better if I kept away from all of you, after causing you guys a great deal of hurt. I still intend to stay away, but—” Maruki pushes his glasses up, the reflective sheen hiding the strange, intense quality in his eyes. He reaches for his jacket pocket, pulling out an envelope. “Someone asked me to come today— I can’t tell you who, but they asked me to deliver something.” Akira’s breath catches, and his eyes dart to the invisible looking-glass that the security guards must be looking through. He’s not been allowed any communication from outside (either that, or he hasn’t received any, but he tries not to think about that). But Maruki catches his glance and shakes his head, in that soft, disappointed way he had shaken his head back when he carried Sumire in his arms and drove her Persona berserk. “It’s been cleared,” he says, still ever so soft. His fingers fumble, but he slides it under the glass partition like an immigration officer returning his passport. “And, before you read it… I understand you may be angry with me, which is fine. The important thing is that you read it and understand what it means.” He picks up the envelope with a curious hum, eyes hovering uncertainly around Maruki’s tense figure, a nervousness that is visible to him the same way bloodhounds pick up scent. Whatever it is, the therapist expects him to be angry, and will allow him. Short of a letter from— Akira wrenches the door shut, but the fading impression of brown hair and a thrown glove lingers anyway— short of him, nothing else could possibly faze him. Akira opens the envelope. Slips the small, black-and-red card out in one move. Flips it over— wrong, he seems. Flinches, at the words written there. I have not ever written one of these, and as such, find myself at a loss. I have no theatrics to demonstrate, no declaration of war, no enmity, even. Thus, I will simply state what happens next. Akira Kurusu, you have lost yourself in a fortress of loneliness, even going so far as to suppress yourself for the sake of others. You may call it protection and name it your guard, but that doesn’t change its essential nature: a prison of your own creation. Twice, now, has your heart been a prison. No more. I will steal your distorted desires without fail. No signature. Akira drops the card. Stands up suddenly, not even registering the sharp, panicked breaths he’s taking. Distantly, the blob of maroon in front of him stands up as well, saying something he can’t hear. No. Not possible. He cannot— he is (was?) a Persona user. He simply cannot have a Palace. Raoul screeches, long and loud, in his head. It used to be a deep, bellowing comfort, drowning out the silence in his head with a hearty laugh that wrapped around him like stage curtains, enveloping him in its warmth. Now it just sounds unhinged— the scream of a bat or the lone howl of a wolf, pounding through his skull with the force of a gunshot. No! It screams, pitched lower and deeper yet strangely similar to his own voice. When he closes his eyes, it’s not Raoul there but himself, with glowing, yellow eyes. The one person we allowed in— to betray us like this, not again! Throw him out, throw them all out! “...Kurusu-kun! Please, say something! I know it’s a great shock, so please try to calm down—” Akira’s eyes snap open. The world slots back into focus, colours swimming back to their original places. Maruki stares, eyes wide with stress. He can’t think. He can’t even feel. All he was and will ever be shrinks down into this point in time, crushing him under its immense weight. “I’ve heard the calling,” he says quietly. Any louder, and his voice will break. “And I understand what it means. Please leave now, Maruki.”
And for when Goro confronts Cognitive Akira/Raoul:
“You’re not Akira,” Goro states dumbly. He’d known, of course, that Cognitive Akira was not the real one— but it had the real one’s face and mannerisms, however foreign it had been. This, though… “You’re his Persona, Raoul.” “I am thou, and thou art I,” Raoul recites, punching a hole through Goro’s tattered heart. Goro had only seen Raoul once: in the final battle against Maruki, merciless curse damage and powerful sleep magic forming a potent combination against Azathoth. He’d assumed that Raoul was a new Persona Akira had fused, a powerful addition to Yoshitsune and Attis and the likes he’d brought to the battle. Yet… If this is the form Akira’s Palace Ruler takes, it can’t be just any old Shadow he picked up from the sea of collective unconsciousness. “Are you surprised, General of the Wake?” Raoul smirks, leaning back a little. He’s floating off the ground now, lounging on the air. “A phantom thief needs a place to hoard his treasures, for the hearts he steals cannot be treated like regular old trinkets.” Hereward rears his head, sensing his name. Goro thinks back to Hereward’s namesake— an ancient nobleman and leader of a resistance movement, nicknamed “Hereward the Wake”, whose exploits may have inspired the tale of Robin Hood. Raoul recognises not Loki, who he used for the longest, nor Robin, whom he had first, but Hereward— fancifully, neither a masked hero of justice nor a god, but just a man. The name comes to him easily. Goro read Sherlock Holmes in the run-up to his public deceit as Detective Prince, and thus, he also knows of its rival. “Arsene,” he says. It makes a terrible, hilarious amount of sense: who better to lead the Phantom Thieves than the quintessential phantom thief himself? “Arsene Raoul Lupin.” “Bravo,” Raoul claps, crimson eyes twinkling with blue flame. “Praise be to my rival, who has never failed to see through me. Yes, I am the gentleman thief of old, the one who took up the mantle of Arsene Lupin, master of a thousand faces, whose actions constitute my identity sufficiently*: Monsieur Raoul.” Goro pictures the original awakening, the blood pouring from Akira’s eyes. That blue-flamed trickster behind him, bursting with energy. Arsene Lupin. “I did not wish it to come to this,” Raoul says, his hands gesturing to the red flashing alarms at the complex. “Truly, mon corbeau. The gentleman thief keeps many secrets, but conversely, it is the detective on his heels who sees them all, not any of his closest acquaintances. That is why me and I have let you in, time and time again. Yet you end up betraying our trust to the very end. Let it be said that these precautions—” Raoul waves at the prison at large, demonic eyes wide with a sad kind of triumph— “have come to fruition at last.”
Goro flinches. He thinks about putting a bullet through Akira’s brain. The splatter, even though it had never been real. About reporting to Shido with glee that the Phantom Thieves were well on their way to falling into his trap, then going to Leblanc and playing chess with Akira, talking about Hegel and antithesis over rapidly-cooling cups of coffee. The deceit of Robin Hood and the truth of Loki. He has betrayed Akira. And while he’s been valiantly avoiding thinking about the boy ever since he woke up, the Palace— it has forced him to grapple with it. He cannot say he regrets his betrayal, nor can he say he enjoyed it, or felt it was necessary. Those things mattered to the Goro of the past, but not to him now, because— because— Because he lives with his sins every day. Wears them on his sleeve, because everyone else must know the true him before deciding whether to engage or not. He will not bend to their standards of social grace— you will live as yourself, sins and all, forever, Hereward says. It is not atonement nor punishment. It is your path to walk. This is still a realm of distorted desires, Goro reminds himself. He cannot start believing in the distorted rhetoric of the Palace Ruler. “It is still a prison,” Goro says calmly, perhaps the calmest he’s ever been since waking up in the god-forsaken place. “You think you are protecting yourself from the horrors of the world, from betrayal, from pain. But you are only locking it away so that you do not have to deal with it. You are not primarily protecting yourself from others— though I should think some part of that is true. No, you are trying to protect you from yourself.” Thinks of Maruki’s text. Done. Akira was defensive and cynical. Shocked by the calling card. Speaking as someone who’s been in contact with many traumatised teens over the past years… trying very hard to compartmentalise his pain, too. Raoul recoils, eye-like slits narrowing into a sliver of crimson. But Goro has already found the truth, written in video tapes of the “interrogation” and the partition falling on the engine room. This Persona might be Akira’s true self, not the invincible anonymity of Arsene Lupin, phantom thief, but it has distorted itself into a man chained to the prison of his heart, locking away pain and tragedy to fool himself into strength. Simply another mask, but not one aimed outwards. A mask placed over his soul in the hopes of fooling himself. “I know how this goes,” Goro says cockily, refusing to draw out the philosophical tangent, drawing his sabre. Raoul raises an eyebrow, or what passes for one on his face, and magic curls under his metallic talons. “You won’t go down without a fight.” “Indeed, detective.” Raoul sighs, languid and calm— like Akira, right before an ambush. “A thief cannot avoid confrontation forever. It is time, then, to use martial prowess to settle what trickery cannot.” Goro grins. This— this is familiar ground. This is adrenaline running through his veins, Loki’s enthusiastic bloodlust rippling into existence; the mask materialising over his features, the desire to rip, tear, kill. This is the same feeling their duel had evoked all that time ago, turned up to eleven. Truly, a no-holds-barred fight against the distorted ruler of Akira’s heart? The part of him that misses combat revels in this. (The part of him that played chess with Akira in Leblanc mourns it— not the battle, exactly, but the loss of what made him Akira.) Novel battles call for new tactics. Pressing a hand against his mask, Goro’s first command is not Loki, but— “Hereward! REBELLION BLADE!”
*whose actions constitute my identity sufficiently is specifically taken from Maurice Leblanc's tales on Arsene Lupin, where Lupin says:
"Why should I have a definite, fixed appearance? Why not avoid the dangers attendant upon a personality that is always the same? My actions constitute my identity sufficiently. [...] It is all the better if people are never able to say with certainty, 'There goes Arsene Lupin.' The great thing is that they should say, without fear of being mistaken, 'That action was performed by Arsene Lupin.' "
By the way, to any other writers of Joker Palace AUs out there using themes of masquerade/masks/theatre, with Joker represented as a person who has lost his identity by being a social butterfly and putting on 'masks' for other people: rock on!!!! That's literally exactly what the theme around Arsene Lupin is!!! He literally says "I myself have forgotten what I am really like; I no longer recognise myself in a glass" in the tales!!
Anyway. Yeah.
Here's your food, anon! Hope you enjoy. I plan on publishing this fic for Whumptober (if I finish it in time, haha), so keep an eye out for it then!
PS. if you want to read about the Third Sem Palace AU you'll have to give me some inspo, cause I'm a lil stuck >.>

Development Log 2. December 8th, 2020.
Metaverse has been checking in on me. Rather sweet people.
The virus, of which I will name Project Mirus, is half-way complete.
So far, the virus has been made to track the location of Monitor. The next step is making it cause a glitch in the files of Monitor, which would make its abilities nullified and distract it enough for somebody out there to find.
Wherever Monitor is, it could already be creating danger. Even if it is not, it could still do such, which is something we here at the Scientist's Collective do not want to happen.
If these logs somehow get uploaded somewhere? Please. To whoever is listening. Tell Doctor L if you somehow find Monitor. Anybody found interacting with Monitor or associates will be punished with the necessary consequence if these files are not reported.
In other non monitor or Mirus related information, Metaverse Enterprise Solutions has for some reason asked us to private our Partners page. We are unaware of why, but we will not ask questions that we may not want the answers to, and so, I put a small amount of time into hiding it, however it can still be accessed if the word "company" is clicked on the Finished Projects page.
Other files, like-
(30 seconds of a beeping noise)
Have no action towards finding them yet. However rest assured I will be on the bottom of this.
I am Doctor K, end of log. //

Interview by Soichiro Morita in Weekly Toyo Keizai magazine, Translated by @SupaChronicles (link to Twitter thread) (transposed below, minus the first chunk which is talking about how financially successful Dragon Ball is as a franchise)
In March, the original author Akira Toriyama passed away, much to the regret of many. However, the momentum of Dragon Ball shows no signs of slowing down and continues to accelerate worldwide. Regarding its appeal, those involved unanimously agree: "It's the simplicity. When we analyzed why the games became hits in North America, it seemed that the straightforwardness of 'Let's fight to see who is the strongest,' which can be enjoyed without much thought, resonated with people," said an insider from Bandai Namco Group. Major Uproar Due to "Person-in-Charge Going Independent" Last year, there was an incident that caused an uproar in the business over this work [Dragon Ball]. In May 2023, Akio Iyoku, former head of Shueisha's Dragon Ball Room*, went independent with several subordinates and established a new company, Capsule Corporation Tokyo, named after a fictional company that appears in the series, with the aim of managing creative activities and handling intellectual property rights. Mr. Iyoku became the head of the Dragon Ball Room in 2016 after serving as Editor-in-Chief of V Jump. A Shueisha insider recalls, "Without consulting his superiors, Mr. Iyoku unilaterally decided to make a film adaptation of Toriyama-sensei's 'SAND LAND'. He always focused on serving the author, for better or worse. At the same time, there was criticism from anime production companies and TV networks that he had a condescending attitude." In addition to these evaluations, progress was lacking in collaborations with the metaverse and AI that higher-ups were anticipating. As a result, in 2022, he was reassigned to a new business department. This unwelcome transfer became the trigger and within a year, Iyoku went independent. Taking over the role of Toriyama's spokesperson on behalf of Shueisha, Iyoku's actions raised the risk of Shueisha losing its 'Dragon Ball' rights. "Toriyama-sensei was also dissatisfied with Iyoku being removed, as he trusted him the most. Chairman Marue Horiuchi of Shueisha even went directly to Toriyama's residence in Aichi Prefecture, but he couldn't persuade him to stay," said the aforementioned Shueisha insider. This put Bandai Namco, which had been making a fortune with games with 'Dokkan Battle', in a difficult position. "Iyoku, who was Toriyama-sensei's spokesperson, became independent, but the rights to the manga were managed by Shueisha. It was unclear who to consult regarding matters related to the original work." "Meetings about Dragon Ball were organized very vaguely, with 'all relevant parties' being invited, which subtly included both Iyoku and Shueisha representatives, making the coordination extremely stressful," said the aforementioned Bandai Namco insider. Toriyama's passing occurred amidst this battle over rights. The discussions continued without the original author, and "the disputes have been ongoing and still remain unresolved," noted a Shueisha employee. Some industry executives are looking towards a resolution that involves the family, saying, "It depends on how the family feels about it." The question remains who will ultimate take the lead in managing this massive IP. The future of the bogged-down battle, which is not befitting a shonen manga, remains unclear.
*The Dragon Ball Room was/is a division within Shueisha (publisher of Shonen Jump) that was dedicated exclusively to Dragon Ball, founded in 2016, basically after Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F' reminded everyone Dragon Ball was still unbelievably massively popular.
tl;dr: In 2023, the guy responsible for managing the Dragon Ball IP- Akio Iyoku- decided to break away from Shueisha and form a new company intended to manage the Dragon Ball IP, with Toriyama's encouragement. This was after Iyoku got demoted internally for being more loyal to Akira Toriyama than to Shueisha with some business decisions that are, in my opinion, Very Good and signal him as being an True-Blue Akira Toriyama Guy. Unfortunately, Toriyama's passing occurred while this was all going on, so the situation is really rough, especially for licensors like Bandai Namco (and presumably Toei) who aren't really sure who to consult for forthcoming projects.

The news has been going around that The Pokemon Company is hiring a "Corporate Development Principal" with knowledge and ties to the blockchain, Web3, and the metaverse.
As much of a nightmare that blockchain Pokemon would be...this doesn't necessarily indicate intent the way we think it does. It's entirely possible that The Pokemon Company just wants industry information. Unfortunately these things are part of our current market. Square Enix is apparently still really into the idea of blockchain games. If this indicates anything, it's that like other video game companies, TPC wants knowledge of current trends.
Pokemon typically plays it pretty safe with the main games. They had to be convinced to even bring them to Switch. (And with the dip in quality control they may have been right.) So if they did somehow dabble in NFT's, I'm guessing it would just be more side merchandise, and it would take a lot of success to get anywhere close to being a part of the main games.
All the same, I have an exit strategy should NFT's infiltrate the main series. I've been really discouraged with the franchise lately.
Edited: Took out part about the "Corporate Development Principal" being a purely financial position. It actual seems to be related to advising the company about what direction to take, which is why all these outlets are so afraid.

@rose-tinting:
They did not sell it to the "International Neopets Team" they sold it to the Former head of the NFT project
No idea what you mean by "international Neopets team" since as far as I'm aware the teams that bought out Neopets are located in Vancouver, but this is what they said on the site, from the horse's mouth:
As many of you may have seen (https://www.jumpstart.com/), Jumpstart was shut down on June 30th, 2023. Prior to this shutdown, Dom pushed NetDragon to save Neopets. A management buyout deal was struck, allowing the two Neopets teams to combine forces and become an independent company. Free from the corporate baggage that existed in the past, the newly united TNT has now been entrusted with the decision-making and overall brand strategy of Neopets, enabling them to work solely on the betterment of the entire Neopets game and community.
The guy who's mentioned here does have some "metaverse" crap mentioned on his LinkedIn, but from what I can tell this seems to be related to the mobile game that is now being advertised on the main Neopets page, which seems to be completely separate from the site itself. The mobile game also doesn't seem to be advertising NFTs, at least at the moment.

How to use real estate in the Metaverse
Tumblr media
The Metaverse is a virtual world beyond the real world, in which it is possible to interact with others, buy and sell goods, etc. In recent years, such a metaverse has come to be used in real estate transactions.
This article provides an overview of the Metaverse and details how it is used in real estate transactions.
What is the concept of the Metaverse?
The Metaverse is a new concept that has been attracting attention in recent years that allows you to experience a world that you have never experienced before. In October 2021, the world’s leading IT company “Facebook” will change its company name to “meta” and is attracting attention so much that it will shift its main business from SNS to Metaverse.
Another point worth noting is the rapid expansion of the metaverse market. Even in Japan, the size of the Metaverse market is growing remarkably. According to a report released by Mitsubishi Research Institute in November 2022, the domestic metaverse market is expected to grow to approximately 4 trillion yen in 2025 and approximately 24 trillion yen in 2030. increase.
Metaverse overview
The Metaverse is simply a virtual world that does not exist in the real world. Metaverse is written in English as ``metaverse’’, ``meta’’ means ``over’’ in Japanese, and ``verse’’ is taken from ``universe’’, which means the world. From this etymology, the metaverse can be interpreted as “beyond the real world”.
You can experience the world of the Metaverse on your computer, smartphone, game console, etc. For example, the virtual world that can be experienced in games such as “Atsume Animal Crossing” and “Fort Knight” is also a kind of metaverse. In these games, you can experience simulated interactions with other people that differ from the real world.
There is a word “VR” that is related to the Metaverse, but they are similar but different. Specifically, Metaverse refers to the virtual space itself, while VR refers to “tools for experiencing the virtual world” such as goggles.
What can you do in the Metaverse world?
In the Metaverse world, you can specifically do the following:
Communication: You can communicate with other users by chat or voice, and you can interact with them in a more realistic way by using avatars. It is used not only for hobby communication, but also for practical purposes such as business meetings.
Games: Metaverse technology is also used in games. Currently, VR devices such as “PSVR” and “MetaQuest2” are coming out, and you can enjoy games with more reality.
Urban development: By applying Metaverse technology to urban development, more realistic urban planning is possible. There are actually virtual cities such as “Virtual Shibuya” and “Virtual Osaka”.
Buying and Selling Things: You can buy and sell things by bringing digital assets into the Metaverse world. Currently, the digital art “NFT” is increasing in value, and there are many cases where it is bought and sold in the Metaverse world.
Features of the Metaverse
In the past, it was possible to create an avatar and move it around a two-dimensional world to do things like the above. However, there is a big difference from the metaverse. The features unique to Metaverse are as follows.
[Features of Metaverse]
Overwhelming reality and immersion
Communicate with multiple users
A world that is permanent, not temporary
Ownership of things in the virtual world is clear
In other words, the progress of Metaverse technology has made the virtual space overwhelmingly more realistic than before. It may be easy to understand if you think of the image of another world existing in parallel with the real world.
In particular, the clarification of ownership of things in the virtual world has greatly contributed to the development of the Metaverse. The reason why the ownership of things in the virtual world has become clear is that it has become possible to distinguish between copies and originals of things like data that can be easily duplicated.
In other words, only the original will have value, so the value is guaranteed. As a result, real estate transactions on the Metaverse have become possible in urban development.
How the Metaverse works
As a reason for the development of the Metaverse, he cited the clarification of ownership of things in the virtual world. As a result, the ability to buy and sell goods in the Metaverse world is the mechanism that establishes the Metaverse.
NFTs are often bought and sold in the Metaverse. NFTs are digital assets whose value is secured by utilizing blockchain technology, such as digital art and in-game items. Blockchain refers to a mechanism that makes falsification extremely difficult and allows multiple people to hold the same data in a distributed manner.
With these technologies, the value of digital assets has been secured, so you can buy and sell things with confidence even in the virtual world.
Real Estate Transactions in the Metaverse
So far, I have explained that the Metaverse is a virtual space, but there are various types of Metaverses. The main types of metaverses are:
Event type: Not only for idols and celebrities, but also for company product introductions and recruitment activities.
Game system: You can experience the world of famous games as it is in the Metaverse
Creator type: Freely create your favorite space and items, and enjoy it with others
The metaverse is also increasingly being used for real estate transactions. However, please note that not all Metaverses allow real estate transactions.
How to buy Metaverse real estate
Examples of metaverses that allow real estate transactions are:
The sandbox
Decentralized
Cryptovoxels
Dream Space
The above four Metaverses are also called “Metaverse BIG4”.
Virtual currency is required to purchase real estate on the Metaverse. Virtual currency refers to property value that can be used on the Internet.
The procedure for purchasing real estate in Metaverse is as follows.
If you do not have a virtual currency account, open one (an account of a famous company such as Coincheck is acceptable)
Create a Metamask (like a wallet or vault for storing cryptocurrencies and land)
Send virtual currency purchased using a virtual currency account to Metamask
Create a metaverse platform account
Find and buy properties in the Metaverse
What you can do with Metaverse real estate
By acquiring real estate on the Metaverse, you can:
buying and selling
rent
Store operation
Holding an event
Let’s take a closer look at each.
Buying and selling real estate
Metaverse real estate trading is done using virtual currency, so you have to prepare virtual currency first.
In the world of the Metaverse, you can make a profit by buying real estate at a low price and selling it at a high price. These are exactly the same as real-world real estate transactions. Therefore, if you are familiar with real estate transactions in the real world, you will have no problem trading on the Metaverse.
An example of real estate trading in the Metaverse is the Canadian IT company TerraZero. TerraZero provided Metaverse Mortgages, a mortgage loan for those who purchase virtual real estate in the Metaverse.
Real Estate Rental
The method of renting real estate on the metaverse is the same as real world real estate. In other words, you search for tenants in the real estate you own on the metaverse. By leasing real estate on the Metaverse, there is no need to set up a physical store, which can lead to significant cost reductions.
Summary
Metaverse is a virtual space and service that provides an experience close to the real world. It has also come to be used in real estate transactions, and its market scale is expanding rapidly. If you get into the Metaverse real estate deal now, you may be able to capitalize on this tremendous bandwagon.
